Quick Share: A new file-sharing service between Android devices

Transfer files using Quick Share

Google is preparing to launch a new file-sharing service between Android devices under the name Quick Share. This service is an improved version of the current Nearby Share feature, which allows fast and easy file transfer via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

What distinguishes Quick Share is that it has the same name that Samsung uses for its own file-sharing service. This indicates that there is a possible collaboration between the two companies to unify their services and improve the user experience.

This change was discovered by developer Kmila Wojciechowska after updating Google Mobile Services (version 23.50.13). This update shows a new notification that announces the name change, as well as a new icon that combines the logos of Google and Samsung.

The functions of Quick Share do not change much from Nearby Share. Users can still share files and images with anyone nearby, or choose between their own devices, or trusted contacts from their Google account. But the selection interface is improved so that it separates between your devices and nearby devices more clearly. Users can also hide themselves from others for a limited time to increase privacy.

The name of the Nearby Share feature on Windows might also be affected by the change, if the name Quick Share becomes official. This would make macOS the only system that does not support this service.

This collaboration between Google and Samsung might be beneficial for both companies, as they enhance the harmony between their devices and the wider Android system.

Google has not yet confirmed this name change or any partnership with Samsung in this area.

Until then, users can enjoy the new Quick Share service, which provides them with an easy and fast way to share files between Android devices. And we might see more improvements and benefits in the future.
